Recertification Credits for Pesticide Licenses
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Commercial pesticide applicators will have several opportunities this winter to earn recertification credits to renew their pesticide license. Ohio State University Extension and the Department of Agriculture will offer several workshops throughout the state. The workshops are designed to help applicators receive the state required five hours of training in one day, said Joanne Kick-Raack, Ohio State University Extension's state program director of the Pesticide Education Program. “Applicators have an opportunity to receive quality training while meeting the requirements of their pesticide license,” said Kick-Raack.
The dates and locations of the workshops are:
General Workshops
Jan. 21, 2009 – Dayton Convention Center, Dayton.
Feb. 10, 2009 – Nia Conference Center, Kalahari Resort, Sandusky.
Feb. 25, 2009 – Columbus Convention Center, Columbus.
March 11, 2009 – John S. Knight Center, Akron.
Field Crops Workshops
Dec. 17, 2008 – Ohio State University Lima Campus, Lima.
Feb. 25, 2009 – Columbus Convention Center, Columbus.
The workshops cover a variety of topics including turfgrass management, ornamental care, industrial vegetation basics and pest control strategies. “Licensed pesticide applicators need the recertification or continuing education training to learn about new alternatives and methods to control pests,” said Kick-Raack. “The topics also focus on responsible use of the products while promoting the health of the public and the environment.”
To become licensed, pesticide applicators must pass a series of exams that test their competency in pesticide application. Applicators must keep their recertification or continuing education hours current to renew their license. Registration information for the recertification workshops will be available on the Pesticide Education Program Web site (http://pested.osu.edu) beginning Oct. 1. Applicators can also receive more information by calling the program at (614) 292-4070.
